ABSTRACT:
Diabetes mellitus is a long-lasting metabolic disorder characterized by elevated blood glucose levels, with Type 2 diabetes mellitus, the most prevalent form of diabetes, is a chronic metabolic condition primarily marked by persistent hyperglycemia. Gymnema sylvestre, traditionally known as “sugar destroyer,” has been widely used for diabetes management. This review summarizes its phytochemical constituents and antidiabetic potential. Bioactive compounds such as gymnemic acids, saponins, flavonoids, and phenolic compounds may reduce glucose absorption, improve insulin secretion, and support glucose utilization. Overall, Gymnema sylvestre shows promising potential as an herbal antidiabetic agent, although further clinical studies are required to establish its safety and efficacy.
In conclusion, this project bridges traditional herbal knowledge with modern scientific research by highlighting the therapeutic potential of Gymnema Sylvestre as a promising natural approach for the management of Type 2 diabetes and the promotion of public health.
