ABSTRACT:
Drugs get delivered to desired tissues, organs, and cells through a variety of drug carriers. Conventional dosage forms of medicament causes difficulties like low solubility, low bioavailability, and drug degradation, side effects, which affects patient compliance. To achieve therapeutic efficacy of the drug suggests that there is a growing need for development of various approaches to deliver the drug. During the past decade, In pharmaceutical research, an entirely novel phase of technological innovation has emerged, with the objective of discovering innovative drug delivery systems. It comprises the method for delivering medications to patients in such a way which increases the concentration of medications inside various body parts. The novel drug delivery system covers various diseases like diabetes, cardiovascular, renal disease, asthma, cancer. These systems include new strategies like liposomes, niosomes, transdermal patches, microsponges, microneedles, microcapsules, nanoparticle, and microchips. Other medication forms of delivery emphasize on getting through specific physical barriers, such the blood-brain barrier, to increase the effectiveness of the medication. Nowadays, with an increase in industrialization, herbal medicines are also administered through novel drug delivery strategies. With demand for innovative and highly efficient pharmaceuticals products, the market holds space for the newest novel drug delivery systems. The current chapter covers the introduction of novel drug delivery, its advantages, challenges, technologies and its future.
