ABSTRACT:
Dysmenorrhea, or menstrual pain, is a common gynecological issue experienced by adolescent girls that can disrupt daily activities. One of the effective non-pharmacological therapies for relieving dysmenorrhea is the use of red ginger (Zingiber officinale var. Rubrum). This study aims to determine the level of knowledge among adolescent girls at SMAN 21 Makassar regarding the use of red ginger to reduce dysmenorrhea pain. This study utilized a descriptive quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach, employing purposive sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires from 90 respondents consisting of 10th and 11th-grade students. The results showed that the knowledge level categorized as good was found in 3 respondents (3.3%), sufficient in 11 respondents (12.2%), and poor in 76 respondents (84.4%). The conclusion of this study indicates that the majority of adolescent girls at SMAN 21 Makassar have a poor level of knowledge regarding the use of red ginger to reduce dysmenorrhea pain in 2026.
