ABSTRACT:
Urolithiasis is a common, recurrent urinary tract disorder, and current treatments carry cost, invasiveness, and recurrence limitations, prompting interest in plant-based alternatives. This study evaluated the in-vitro anti-urolithiatic activity of a hydroalcoholic extract of Centella asiatica leaves (7% w/w yield), which showed the presence of flavonoids, phenolics, saponins, triterpenoids, and other phytoconstituents on screening. In in-vitro assays, the extract produced concentration-dependent inhibition of calcium oxalate nucleation (up to 57.20±0.91%) and aggregation (up to 57.11±0.82%), and dissolution of preformed crystals (up to 38.00%) at 400 µg/mL, comparable to but slightly below a standard drug. These in-vitro findings suggest C. asiatica possesses promising anti-urolithiatic potential, warranting further mechanistic and in-vivo investigation to confirm efficacy beyond the experimental model.
