ABSTRACT:
This extensive review highlights recent developments in the formulation and assessment of vitamin D3 delivery systems based on emulgels, highlighting their potential to promote transdermal absorption. A necessary fat-soluble nutrient, vitamin D3 is essential for many physiological processes, so getting it to the body effectively is critical. The review starts off by going over the reasoning behind the selection of emulgels as Vitamin D3 carriers and going over some of their special qualities that help with better medication delivery. Emulgel stands out as an effective formulation for administering hydrophobic drugs. By amalgamating the attributes of both gel and emulsion, it facilitates the solubility of hydrophobic drugs, thereby improving their bioavailability. This unique combination not only enhances the drug's effectiveness but also contributes to increased patient compliance, particularly when utilized as a topical drug delivery dosage form. Emulgels have the advantage of being stable, having a higher viscosity, and having improved skin penetration due to their dual-phase nature, which changes from an emulsion to a gel when applied. Based on their influence on emulgel stability and performance, important formulation parameters - such as the choice of emulsifiers, gelling agents and permeation enhancers - are critically assessed.
