ABSTRACT:
Diabetes mellitus, particularly type 1 & 2, poses a growing public health concern in developing nations such as Nepal and India. This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted at RP Hospital, Parbhani, from January to March 2025, to assess the prevalence of type 1 & 2 diabetes among individuals attending a medical camp. A total of 114 participants aged above 14 years were assessed using random blood sugar (RBS) testing and a brief interview covering lifestyle factors. The study found a type 2 diabetes prevalence rate of 4.38%, with a slightly higher occurrence in males (2.63%) than females (1.75%). Elevated RBS levels were more common among individuals with mild physical activity, those with higher BMI, and alcohol consumers. The study highlights the significant presence of undiagnosed diabetes in suburban and rural areas and underscores the need for early screening and preventive interventions, especially among high-risk groups such as overweight individuals. Early diagnosis and lifestyle modifications can play a crucial role in reducing the burden of diabetes and its complications in underserved populations.
